Staff Writers Considering it was a rainy day and there were only a handful of races on the ballot, turnout was still fair Tuesday for Cullman County’s municipal runoff elections. The race with the greatest level of participation in the Cullman city elections was the mayoral race, in which a total of 2,957 votes were cast. “I think it was exceptionally well for a runoff,” Cullman city hall employee Linda Lee said of the voter turnout. The Cullman City School Board Place 1 and Place 3 races received the least amount of voter participation, with 2,813 and 2,814 votes cast, respectively. Lee said the inclement weather did not appear to have any impact on voter turnout. “No, it doesn’t appear to have had any effect,” she said. Voter turnout was only slightly below numbers from the recent August election, which drew a total of 3,404 for the mayoral race. Hanceville, with 1,902 registered voters, had an impressive turnout with 1,408 ballots cast — 719 of which were for the mayoral race. Baileyton Town Clerk Ruth Rose said her town had a modest turnout, with approximately 50 percent of registered voters casting ballots. “It was a pretty good percentage,” Rose said. Good Hope Town Clerk Joann Beeler said voter turnout for the runoff was even better than during the August general election. Beeler said 556 votes were cast in the runoff, while 550 were cast in the general election. “The rain definitely did not hurt at all,” she said.
