TGREEN@CULLMANTIMES.COM The 11th Annual Sweet Tater Festival will be held this weekend at Dowling Memorial Park. From sweet tater pie to baked sweet taters sprinkled with butter and cinnamon, to vendors and entertainment, there will be something for all ages. “This will be the biggest and best ever,” Tony Leonardi, director of the Sweet Tater Festival said. A variety of live entertainment will be provided by gospel artist Brenda Cook and Shane Burroughs, contemporary Christian artist James Taylor, Willie Nelson tribute artist, Wayne Abbott; Rascal Flatts tribute artist Evan Mitchell and Terry Padgett Elvis tribute artist. Radio personality Carol Lynn from 105.7 WQAH will be broadcasting live from the festival. The event will have arts and crafts, door prizes and kiddie rides. “So far we have over 60 vendors lined up,” Leonardi said. This years event will have more selection of sweet potato items and a plate lunch provided by Chef Earl Sherrill. “We will have sweet tater pies, sweet potato fries, fried sweet potatoes, sweet potato casseroles, sweet potato jam and much more,” Leonardi said. Leonardi said there will be door prizes, including 10 gallons of free gas from Jet Pep every hour. All proceeds go to the maintenance and up keep of Dowling Memorial Park. “Every penny goes to maintain the school, park and grounds including grass cutting and taxes,” Leonardi said. He said he hopes to raise enough money in the next few years to build a pavilion for entertainment. The event will be on Sunday from 1- 4 p.m. and Monday from 8 - 3 p.m. Admission is $2 per person donation.
