Nearly every candidate vying for a municipal position in Cullman County filed their final expense reports last week.
Polls across the county will open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. today for local municipal elections.
Cullman County Office Chief Clerk Tammy Brown said all candidates were required to appoint a principal campaign committee and file contribution and expenditure reports between five and 10 days before the elections. Candidates who did not reach the expense or contribution threshold of $1,000 were not required to file a report, but asked to file a waiver of report.
‰ Of the Baileyton municipal candidates, Joseph Golden (mayor), Patricia Gilbert, (Place 1), Wendell Peterson, (Place 1), Walker Mead (Place 1) and Roy Shedd (Place 3), Glenn Byrden, (Place 4), Bill McElroy (Place 5) and Anne Sullivan (Place 2) filed waivers of report. Wendell Guthrie (Place 1), Charles Dansby (Place 5), Joseph “Jack” McGee (Place 5) and Donald VanZandt (Place 4), neglected to file expenditure or waiver reports.
‰ Baileyton mayoral candidate Johnny Dyar reported $556.46 spent in advertising.
‰ Baileyton town council Place 2 candidate Albert Windell Calloway reported $403.92 spent in advertising.
‰ Colony mayoral candidate Earlene Johnson (incumbent) and town council candidate Place 4 John Henry Turner (incumbent) filed waivers of report. Mayoral candidate Morris Fitts, Place 3 candidate Patrick Ward and Place 4 candidate Donnis Leeth did not file either waivers or expense reports. Place 1, Place 2 and Place 5 seats in Colony are currently vacant.
Of those running for positions in the city of Cullman, only Wayne Walker (Place 1 incumbent), Garlan Gudger, Jr. (Place 2), O.B. “Red” Parris (Place 3) and Allen “Bubba” Green (Place 4) did not file waiver or expense reports.
‰ Cullman mayoral candidate Louis Bradford reported a beginning balance of $1,161.33, contributions of $2,930 — $1,280 of which was from Harold Bice of Huntsville, Don Jones of Warrior, Jenny Nance of Cullman, Sonny Mullins of Hanceville and Prestigious Pets in Cullman. Another $1,000 was from personal contributions. He reported $3,863.07 in expenditures for advertising.
‰ Cullman mayoral candidate Ernest Hauk reported a beginning balance of $3,738.67. He had $1,650 in contributions from Henry Martha Beeler of Cullman, Evelyn Galin of Los Angeles, CA, Stephen Swafford of Pelham, Kayce Bell of Hartselle, Champ Crocker of Cullman and several donors listed as miscellaneous. Hauk reported $5,170.08 in advertising expenditures.
‰ Cullman mayoral candidate Eric Perry listed a beginning balance of $50 and a personal contribution of $1,533.27. He listed $1,533.27 in advertising expenditures.
‰ Cullman mayoral candidate Marshall Rowe listed a beginning balance of $176.92 and $1,850 in cash contributions from Jay Mullins of Cullman, O.W. Norris of Cullman, Harold Sachs of Double Springs, AE Cotton in Cullman, Melvin Hasting of Cullman and Lai’s Chinese Restaurant in Cullman. He also reported $1,515 in non-itemized cash contributions and $2,829.69 in advertising expenditures.
