PATRICKM@CULLMANTIMES.COM A convicted Cullman County sex offender and an alleged child sex abuser were locked behind bars last week. Cullman County Sheriff’s investigators arrested Myron Clifton Marsh, Jr., 44, Thursday on two counts of sexual abuse in the first degree and Allen Monroe Thompson, 65, on Saturday for failure to notify a change of address. Sheriff’s reports indicate Marsh allegedly sexually abused two children under 12 years old. “The suspect had inappropriately touched the victims,” Roden said. “Two separate victims alleged that it was several incidences that have occurred over the last several years.” Roden noted Marsh knew the two children through their families prior to the alleged incidences. Further information concerning the incidents and the victims was not released. Roden said Thompson’s alleged notification failure was discovered while deputies were investigating a harassment charge against him. “On July 8 of this year, a person filled out a report of harassment with the sheriff’s office, naming him as a suspect ... where there was some inappropriate touching,” Roden said. “The person (victim) was an adult.” Upon investigating the matter, deputies discovered Thompson was a convicted sex offender who had been living at an unregistered residence on County Road 1029 in the Water Valley community for the last five months. “We’re still not sure where he moved from,” Roden said. According to sheriff’s reports, Thompson was convicted in Cullman in 1989 of attempting to commit sexual abuse in the first degree. Roden said though the conviction was made prior to the state’s sex offender community notification laws, Thompson still must register whenever he changes his address. Thompson is incarcerated at the Cullman County Detention Center on a $15,000 bond while Marsh is incarcerated at the jail on a $30,000 bond. Sexual abuse in the first degree is a Class C felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
