trentm@cullmantimes.com The Hospice of Cullman County is getting ready for their “major” fundraiser for the year this week. This Thursday at the Colonel Cullmann room at Cullman Regional Medical Center, the agency will host a Truck Draw Down to raise money for operating costs. “It’s the biggest annual fundraiser to benefit indigent patients,” Director Debbie Doss said. The event, set to begin at 6 p.m., will specifically be used to raise money for the Cullman County Hospice to continue with indigent care. “We’re a non-profit organization and take patients regardless of ability to pay,” Doss said. “It helps with people who have no insurance. It helps with medicine and equipment, and personal needs and physical needs.” Doss said the Truck Draw Down fundraiser is the agency’s largest fundraiser of the year. “The truck draw down is the major one,” she said. “We usually try to raise about $15,000 — that’s usually what we clear.” Three hundred tickets have been pre-sold for the event for $100 per ticket. Dinner and various door prizes will also be on hand. “There are door prizes we will give out intermittently,” Doss said. “Several stores and people from the county — and also from Decatur — have donated. We’ve got some jewelry, rugs and a beautiful picture, among other things.” Also at the dinner, the Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck will be raffled. The meal begins at 5:30 p.m. and the drawing is slated for 6 p.m.
