PATRICKM@CULLMANTIMES.COM Cullman police arrested a local man Thursday for allegedly stalking and assaulting his ex-girlfriend several times over the past three months. Corey Phillips, 19 was charged with aggravated stalking, criminal mischief in the first degree and reckless endangerment. Capt. Max Bartlett of the Cullman Police Department said investigators initiated an intensive search for Phillips several days ago. Officers located Phillips at a business in Hanceville. “We believe he is a credible threat to this young lady (ex-girlfriend),” Bartlett said. According to police reports, the charges stemmed from a series of incidents, which culminated with Phillips allegedly using his vehicle to chase down and ram his ex-girlfriend’s vehicle.The alleged incidents began in May outside the Cullman Wal-Mart Super Center. “He assaulted her in the Wal-Mart parking lot and damaged her car ... he had actually tried to force her into his vehicle,” Bartlett said. Bartlett said after that initial incident, Phillips was charged with domestic violence in the third degree, criminal mischief in the second degree. Phillips was also given a court order not to have any contact with the victim. Bartlett said Phillip allegedly initiated contact with the victim again on June 5. “Phillips was later observed damaging her (victim) vehicle at a residence,” Bartlett said. “That same night she was followed and he rammed her vehicle and knocked her mirror off while he was riding a motorcycle.” Reports indicate the last incident occurred July 12 on Cherokee Ave. SW in front of Arby’s Restaurant. “The victim observed Phillips driving down the highway,” Bartlett said. “He turned around and followed her and started ramming the back of her car.” Bartlett said the victim tried to turn onto Beech Avenue to get to the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office, however, Phillips used his vehicle to block her path. She later made it to safety at her current boyfriend’s residence, he said. The victim’s vehicle sustained approximately $2,700 worth of damage.
