Colony man arrested on drug charges

The Cullman Times

Cullman County Sheriff’s investigators arrested a local man Friday who they suspect is one of the larger crack cocaine dealers in the Colony area.

“We believe he plays a significant role,” said Cullman County Sheriff Tyler Roden.

Narcotics investigators charged Terry Wayne Fields, 48, of Colony with three counts of distribution of a controlled substance after a six-month-long investigation. He was arrested at his residence and did not resist.

Roden said deputies made several controlled buys from Fields during the investigation. Roden said he could not specify the amount of crack cocaine allegedly recovered from Fields since the investigation is still ongoing.

“The investigation continues and the possibility of more arrests exist,” he said.

This is not the first time Fields has been on the wrong side of the law.

“He has been arrested before on similar charges,” Roden said.

Roden said the main drug problems in the majority of Cullman County revolve around methamphetamines as well as the illegal use of prescription medications and marijuana. However, Colony is the exception.

“Crack is a big problem in that particular area,” Roden said.

Fields was released from the Cullman County Detention Center Saturday on two $30,000 bonds and one $10,000 bond.

Distribution of a controlled substance is a Class B felony, punishable by at least two years and as much as 20 years in prison.
