What happened to the Democrats?
Growing up, my father and family always claimed to be Democrats. Being a Christian in the South, he always said the Democrats were for the poor people. That was a fact back in the ‘30s, ‘40s and ‘50s. Then the ‘60s hit and the Vietnam war seem to breed a new type of American protester.

Reader will vote 'no' on Tuesday
Many people and groups I support, and who should be supported by everyone who cares about this state, recommend voting for raiding the Alabama Trust Fund. With all due respect to them, I disagree and I will vote “no.”

The Health Care Funding Debate: A longer perspective
As we Alabamians approach an opportunity to vote on using Trust Fund monies to bail out the General Fund over the next three years it occurs to me that many voters may lack a long-term perspective on this issue, especially as it involves the State's ability to continue Medicaid funding. Recently I was surprised to learn that some of my younger physician colleagues are unaware of this history.
