CULLMAN —
Someone recently asked my opinion about the alcohol referendum on March 2 in Hanceville.
I said you mean the devil’s brew, the poison curse, the bloody monster that defiles innocence, dethrones reason, destroys the home, creates sickness and poverty, yea, literally takes food from the mouths of little children. If you mean the drink that causes over 100,000 deaths in the U.S. and the leading cause of deaths in teenagers, if you mean the evil drink that topples the Christian man and woman from the pinnacles of righteous, gracious living into the bottomless pit of degradation, despair, shame, helplessness and hopelessness.
If you mean the brew that causes risky sexual behavior, creates poor grades and job performance, if you mean the liquid substance that Mayor Nail, Councilor Walls, Wilson, and Alexander believe will bring in an abundance of wealth. No way. If you mean the elixir that would bring a Red Lobster or Applebee’s to our city, hey, don’t be fooled. The city of Arab used this campaign to get alcohol. No Applebee’s or Red Lobster has located there. They have an open bar and lounge in the downtown area. Now you know my opinion concerning alcohol in Hanceville. Let’s keep Hanceville special on March 2.

Lady Broncos' coach/Lady Broncos
We, as the Holly Pond Varsity Lady Broncos, would like to clarify a few comments published in a previous spread about our coach. It would be accurate to refer to him as a second father to all of us players.

Small random acts of kindness/Johnson
Small random acts of kindness often have the largest impact. In this season we often spend large amounts of time and money trying to win favor with that perfect gift. Ceaseless hours are spent shopping online or in the mall often without success. This is a story of the perfect gift that has affected us all.

I don't often say nice things about government or government employees. But, perhaps this doesn't count either.

Teacher gifts are not the problem/Weaver
Teacher gifts are not the problem.
Legislators need to get off the backs of elementary schools and attend to the bigger issues we are facing-greed and corruption in government. -

Thank your child’s teacher!/Wright
Thank your child’s teacher! On Dec. 7, the State of Alabama Ethics Commission issued a 26-page opinion on how the new Ethics law affects Alabama’s teachers. The area of the law that is receiving the most attention concerns appreciation gifts given to our children’s teachers. It is incredibly restrictive – and has simply gone too far!
