Disregard for the law
Several months ago, we were reminded of the continuing battle with alcohol abuse faced by our state senator, Zeb Little, who was stopped in Birmingham for DUI, yet again. After this latest incident, the press pointed out that Zeb had a record of such incidents and since then his license has reportedly been suspended. Nevertheless, in the past few weeks, I have heard that citizens have witnessed Zeb driving himself around the city and county of Cullman. I hope that’s not true, because it would show a blatant disregard for the law.
While I have some sympathy for Zeb's disease and for the embarrassment it continues to cause his family, my patience is wearing very thin for his continued abuse of alcohol and dangerous driving and I find his disregard for the law an example of the arrogance of power that we should not tolerate in our elected officials. This arrogance, rather than his sickness, is what deserves to be punished, and I would hope the voters of his district will hold him accountable in the election next year.
