A job well done in Hanceville

CULLMAN — As a descendant to the founder of Hanceville, P.H. Kinney, I would like to extend my appreciation to Mayor Kenneth Nail.

Since Mayor Nail has been in office Hanceville has taken on a new city atmosphere, friendly and inviting, with a sense of growth in the air. In recent years when I would visit it had an almost "ghost town" feeling. I have been thinking about this for sometime and can only visualize P.H. Kinney shaking the hand of Mayor Nail in his appreciation.

History reports that P.H. cared deeply for Hanceville, naming the town after his father, Hance Kinney. It's easy to recognize Mayor Nail has worked hard while adding a professional tone to the city government. I want to publicly thank him and wish him and his council continued success for this positive direction.

P.H. was the first Post Master of Hanceville. He held the election at his store to incorporate Hanceville, then named the city after his father, Hance Kinney. He passed away in 1907. The Cullman Democrat reported his death as front page news.

The article stated he had a kind heart and a friend to every man, woman, and child of his acquaintance.

Thanks Hanceville for a job well done.
