Walter D. ‘Cotton’ Shadix
Funeral services for Walter D. “Cotton” Shadix, 84, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, 2008, at Bethel Methodist Church, Bro. Barry Henderson officiating, with interment in Bethel Cemetery in Eva.
Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Shadix died Wednesday, Nov. 19, at his residence. He was born Aug. 25, 1924, in Morgan County, Ala., to John Dorse and Hattie Theo Burnett Shadix. He was a retired farmer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy (Seaman First Class), having served on the USS Enterprise in World War II. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Simcoe No. 853 for 43 years and a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife of 35 years, June Livingston Shadix.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Gertrude Shadix; four sons, Darrell Gene (Dale) Shadix, Roger Dennis (Sheila) Shadix, John Darrell Waldrop and William Larry (Kay) Waldrop; two daughters, Regena (John) Holmes and Dianna Sue (Neal) Graham; a brother, Roy N. “Red” Shadix; a sister, Connie Shadix Smith; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.
