Sarah Frost Prather
Funeral services for Sarah Frost Prather, 80, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home Chapel, Terry Tingle officiating, with entombment in Cullman Memory Gardens.
Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Prather died Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born on Nov. 9, 1927, in Flat Creek, Tenn., to Carl Wright Frost and Lillis Boon Frost Gunn. She was a retired teacher. She lived in Cullman for the past 17 years. She had the honor of being chosen as an Olympic torch bearer in 1996 when the Olympic torch was carried through Cullman. She helped coach the first women’s golf team at Cullman High School with Don Green. She was a member of Quest Club, Entre Amies Club, Cullman Ladies Book Club and taught bridge classes at First Methodist Church. Sarah served as a volunteer for Hospice for the past 10 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a member of Presbyterian Women and several church committees. As a retired school teacher with 31 years of service, she loved spending time as a substitute teacher at both Cullman Middle and Cullman High schools.
She was preceded in death by a twin sister, Mary Ann Frost Tomlinson.
Survivors include her husband, Ed Prather; a daughter, Amy (Alan) Walker; a son, Bill (Rhonda) Prather; four grandchildren, Trent Walker, Lance Walker, Andrew Prather and Matthew Prather; and a brother, John Wright Frost.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Cullman First Presbyterian Church, 615 3rd Ave. SE, Cullman, AL 35055.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
