The Cullman Times

Inez Jones Tucker

Funeral services for Inez Jones Tucker, 92, of Auburn will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2008, at Auburn First Baptist Church, the Revs. John Jeffers and James Evans officiating, with burial in Auburn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home in Opelika is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Tucker died Tuesday, May 6, in Auburn. Originally from Winston County, Mrs. Tucker lived in Cullman County from 1939 to 1948 and taught mathematics and English at Jones Chapel. She was married in 1940 to Howard Tucker of Logan. She was an Auburn resident for 60 years, having moved to Auburn in 1948 with her husband, Howard, to finish their education at Auburn University (then Alabama Polytechnic Institute). In 1950, she began more than 25 years of dedication to Auburn University Food Services. She was well known to the Auburn family as the head dietician and manager of the War Eagle Cafeteria in the Auburn University Union Building, famous for its “Maryland Turkey,” until she retired in the late 1970s. Her husband, Howard, and her family were her heart and soul. Always thinking of others, her caring ways made her loved by each person who met her. She made everyone part of her own family.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Lera Jones Tidwell and husband, William C. Tidwell; and her brother, Dee Jones.

Survivors include three daughters, Anita Tucker Smith, Beverly Tucker (Vern) Beitzel, Kaki Tucker (Doug) Barto; a son, James H. (Karen) Tucker; two sisters, Nell Jones Watts and Doris Jones; five sisters-in-law, Beatrice Jones, widow of brother Ray Jones who predeceased Mrs. Tucker, Jean Reaves, widow of brother Sam Jones who predeceased Mrs. Tucker, Mary Jo Tucker Kennedy, Eulala Tucker Kaylor, Maxine Tucker, widow of Elwin Tucker, Dr. Tucker’s brother; seven grandchildren, Rae Hunter, Leigh Hunter, Allen Hunter (Wanda Markie Hunter) Jr., Kimberly Tucker, Jillian Tucker, Kristy Cottrell and Ross Beitzel; and two great-grandchildren, Tripp Hunter and Zach Hunter.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the church or charity of one’s choice.

Visitation was Thursday.
