2 killed in weekend accident
By Trent MooreA Cullman County woman and her granddaughter were killed Saturday night when their car flipped and crashed into a tree on Goldridge Road.
Linda Pope, 50, and four-year-old Raegan Walker were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at 9:40 p.m. by Cullman County Coroner Gary Murphree. Both were wearing safety restraints.
“The four-year-old was killed instantly,” Murphree said. “The child’s grandmother (Pope) was a passenger and she died within minutes of the accident.”
The wreck occurred at approximately 9:05 p.m. on County Road 1545, four miles west of Fairview, according to Alabama State Trooper reports.
The driver of the vehicle, 29-year-old Jacquelynne Michelle Cosper, was injured and flown to Huntsville Hospital for treatment. She has since been released.
Cosper was driving a 2007 Ford, according to trooper reports.
Murphree said the one-vehicle accident likely occurred when the car ran off the road in a sharp curve.
“They were coming from the direction of Center Grove Church and came around a curve,” he said. “The car apparently went off the road, and it looks like the driver may have overcorrected. The car flipped up and hit a tree, and the roof of the car impacted the tree.”
The Goldridge Volunteer Fire Department, as well as Cullman EMS, responded to the wreck, Murphree said.
“They were all very helpful and they all gave a tremendous effort,” he said.
The accident remains under investigation.

According to the Alabama Department of Public Safety, there have been approximately 268 vehicle fatalities in Alabama in 2009. Of those fatalities, 124 have happened on county roads.
