HANCEVILLE — Wallace State Community College is seeking entries for its annual Arts in April juried visual arts exhibition. Categories covering various artistic mediums and all age ranges are open for submission to the program, with ribbons awarded to the winners in each category.

“This is an exciting time for us at Wallace State,” said Adrian Scott, director of the college’s art and visual communications program. “Through our Arts in April juried visual arts exhibition, we get to see the work of so many talented artists from the area. We get to see their interpretation on our theme and it’s wonderful to see the diversity of those ideas through their artwork.”

The theme for this year’s Arts in April exhibition is “HEART of a LION.” The exhibit seeks to visually showcase the courage and committed nature associated with Wallace State’s lion mascot. Any imagery and subject matter which the participants feel creatively communicates this theme is welcome. Artworks, which do not relate to the “HEART of a LION” theme are also welcome.

In addition to the annual exhibit, entries are also sought for the “Big Cat on Campus” public art design challenge for showcase. This challenge is a design contest, which is seeking three winning creative design submissions for potential application to three large-scale lion sculptures on Wallace State’s campus.

The Big Cat on Campus public art design challenge seeks to symbolically and visually showcase the courage committed nature associated with Wallace State’s Lion Mascot, but additionally, any creative and thoughtful decorative imagery is encouraged and welcomed. The winning designs must represent the Wallace State Community College family to our friends and to the communities we serve by upholding the college’s tradition of excellence in all we do.

Entries for the juried visual art exhibition and the Big Cat on Campus challenge should be submitted by April 4. Entry forms and information regarding media categories, age divisions, eligibility, rules and presentation can be found at http://www.wallacestate.edu/artsinapril or by contacting Scott at 256.352.8145 or adrian.scott@wallacestate.edu.
