CRMC Truck Draw Down helps defray cost of indigent patient care

CULLMAN — Cullman Regional Medical Center will once again host its annual Truck Draw Down, benefiting Hospice of Cullman County. The fundraiser helps to defray the cost of indigent patient care.

Last years’ Truck Draw Down earned over $26,000 for this cause. This year the annual Truck Draw Down will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 26. The much anticipated drawing will be located in the Cullman Regional Medical Center’s Colonel Cullmann Room, in the Community Education Center of Professional Office Building II.

With many significant prizes, great food and wonderful company, this is an event which not only benefits those who are in need, but an evening which has become one of the year’s most exciting events. As the winner’s names are called out, the nail biting begins. You can almost see everyone holding their breath as the suspense builds to a climax.

Last year’s grand prize winner, Mary Ellen Werner, was shocked to be holding the final ticket. Werner chose the $10,000 prize option in lieu of the truck.

“Last year’s event was a tremendous success with 325 tickets sold, along with 10 cakes and other items contributed for auction,” said Linton Newlin, 2011 Hospice Event Chair.

According to Hospice of Cullman County, Inc. Board Event Chair, Amy Walker, “This event is extremely important to the patients and families who receive our care and support while dealing with difficult end-of-life issues.”

“This year’s event features a chance to win a new 2012 Chevrolet pickup truck or $10,000 cash while enjoying dinner, door prizes and much more,” says Hospice Board Chairman Donald Jones.

“Each year the event grows due to the support from our generous community. I would recommend getting your tickets early as there are a limited number of tickets sold,” encouraged Walker.

Dinner will be served to ticket holders at 5:30 p.m. with the Truck Draw Down beginning promptly at 6 p.m. In addition, the event will feature wonderful prizes and auction items, including homemade cakes.

The tickets are $100 each and all monies raised will fund indigent patient care.

“Special thanks to Healthcare Authority of Cullman County Board Member Judy Butler and Tri-Green Equipment Company in Cullman who donated a 2012 Child’s John Deere Gator XUV 550,” said Gloria Williams, Hospice Board Event Vice-Chair.

Last year’s Gator winner was two-year-old Cohen Price who was thrilled with his prize. When he found out that he would be the proud owner of a new Gator, “His eyes lit up with excitement and we couldn’t get him off of it,” said his mom, Renetta Price.

Hospice will be taking donations for chances to win this wonderful child’s toy. The drawing for the Gator will be held in conjunction with the Truck Draw Down July 26. You do not have to be present to win.

Walker said. “The monies raised will help us provide care to anyone needing it, regardless of their ability to pay.”

Tickets for the Truck Draw Down or for chances to win the John Deere Child’s Gator can be purchased from Hospice of Cullman County, 1912 AL Highway 157, POB I, Second Floor — or from one of the following Hospice Board Members: Hank Allen, Jean Alexander, Wendell Copeland, Peggy Doss, Nell Dunlap, Felton Easterwood, Donald Jones, Clara Kent, Mike Manning, Connie McGriff, Dean McMinn, Linton Newlin, Rita Nicholas, Amy Walker or Gloria Williams.
