STATE: Ala. beer with 'Dirty' name gets the OK

BIRMINGHAM — A beer distributor says Alabama’s alcohol board has reversed an earlier decision to ban a beer over its name, and will now allow it to be sold in the state.

The Birmingham News reports that Birmingham Beverage Co. said in a statement that Alabama’s Alcoholic Beverage Control Board will allow the sale of Dirty Bastard Beer.

The newspaper reports that state officials could not immediately be reached for comment on the decision.

In April, the agency said it banned the sale of Dirty Bastard because of profanity on its label.

Bob Martin, an attorney with the state board, said in April that staff members rejected the brand over concerns about young people seeing the language on store shelves.

Dirty Bastard is made by Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Founders Brewing Co.
