Cullman’s inaugural Cluck-n-Brew wingfest event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 3-9 p.m. at Depot Park. Admission is $5 per person and will feature a chicken wing cook-off for people in the community who want to show their culinary skills.
The event will be hosted by Cullman City Park and Recreation in an effort to raise funds for the community playground that will be in connection with Ingle Park. Program and events director Christy Turner said this fundraiser will be the spearhead for the park project.
“There is nothing in Cullman that celebrates poultry and it’s a huge portion of community, if I’m not mistaken, Cullman County is known as the number-one producer of quality poultry in Alabama,” Turner said. “It’s an identity our community has, so it sounded like a great idea and this is the first time we’re having a festival to celebrate it.”
The wing cook-off will end with someone receiving the title “best wings in town” and a $500 prize. The wings will be sold for 50 cents each and proceeds will benefit local businesses, as well as the community playground project.
“The cook-off has a free entry, but you will still be required to have county health department license,” Turner said.
The event will involve many local vendors and will feature a kid-zone, SEC football games can be watched on the multiple big screen televisions that will be set-up, and multiple food choices will be available from businesses across the community.
“The event will be following the fair parade and will feature live bands, kids inflatables, a Game-Day tent, food, beverages, all kinds of entertainment for the whole family,” Turner said.
