Cullman County Farmers Federation and the Women’s Leadership Committee
The Cullman County Farmers Federation and the Women’s Leadership Committee celebrated Food Checkout Week Feb. 17-23, to raise money to donate to the local food bank. This week is designated as such, in commemoration of the time of year the average American has earned enough income to pay for an entire year’s food supply. Now in its 15th year, Food Checkout Week highlights America’s safe, abundant and affordable food supply made possible by America’s productive farmers. According to the most recent information from the USDA’s Economic Research Service, American families and individuals spend, on average, less than 10 percent of their disposable personal income on food.
Most of the 67 county Farmers Federations celebrate this week by collecting and donating food items to Ronald McDonald Houses in Alabama and sponsoring monetary donations to local food banks such as Cullman Caring For Kids. The Cullman County Farmers Federation and Women’s Leadership Committee donate to Cullman Caring For Kids Food Bank in recognition of this event each year.
