CULLMAN —
Greentree Circle, a private street in the Greentree Apartment complex, has been officially renamed “Cooper Circle” in honor of the long-time service of Mr. James Cooper. Mr. Cooper was surprised by the name change at a gathering at Greentree Apartments Jan. 31, 2013.
When Greentree Apartments and Veigl Village Apartments were constructed in the late 1980s, the owner, MBH Properties, formed a management company to oversee and run both complexes. Mr. Cooper had worked with Hendrix Construction Company on the construction of both complexes, and was a life-long friend of those who formed MBH Properties. He was asked if he would be interested in taking charge of the responsibilities of the management company. He agreed and the name “Cooper Property Management” was chosen as the management company’s name.
When Mr. Cooper decided to retire in December 2012, it was decided to honor his many years of excellent service and devotion by changing the street name from Greentree Circle to Cooper Circle. With the cooperation of various government offices to make the change official, the new name became official and the street sign was changed Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013.
“Greentree Apartments and Veigl Village Apartments are very important to our community as they help provide subsidized housing to our residents,” stated Cullman Mayor Max A. Townson. “James Cooper, through Cooper Property Management, has done an excellent job throughout the years of managing the property and making sure that the tenants enjoy safe, affordable, quality housing. It is very fitting that this street be renamed in his honor.”
