CULLMAN — The Cullman Lions Club recently had as their guest speaker, Allison Wetherbee, the Community Relations Director for Camp ASCCA (Alabama Special Camp for Children and Adults). This is an Easter Seals camp and is located near Lake Martin near Jackson Gap, Ala., and is nationally recognized in the field of therapeutic recreation for children and adults with both physical and mental disabilities. Ms. Wetherbee was born in 1970 with no arms or legs and cannot use any type of prosthesis. A graduate of Camden High School, she earned a master’s degree in counseling from Auburn University. She was employed as a mental health therapist for 11 years prior to accepting her current position with the camp. She travels all over the state, sharing her experiences and promoting the camp’s benefits. She also has written a book on her growing up and adult experiences titled, “I Was Born This Way.” For more information on Ms. Wetherbee, her book or the camp, visit www.campascca.org.

Verizon Wireless donates to Victims Services of Cullman, Inc.
In celebration of Mother’s Day, Verizon Wireless delivered roses to survivors in domestic violence shelters across the state. Each flower delivery was accompanied by a HopeLine grant to support ongoing victim services at the shelter, with grants totaling $7,500.
