CULLMAN —
The Cullman Ballet Company is the official dance company of Ballet Theatre School of Cullman and sponsored by the Cullman Ballet Society, a non-profit organization since 1995.
Elaine Brown Willingham is artistic director/owner of Ballet Theatre school since 1972. The company was formed to encourage the participation of dedicated dancers of the school to further their dance training. Company and apprentice membership is by audition only. Performances have included annual lecture demonstrations as an outreach to Cullman city and county schools, local charity events, pageants, Cullman Oktoberfest, Panoply Choreography Competition, Alabama Dance Festival, and recitals with Ballet Theatre School.
The company has had many talented dancers receive scholarships from the Cullman Ballet Society and scholarships from other dance events. Many have gone on to dance with ABT, Harid Conservatory, The Rock School, Kirov Academy of Ballet of Washington, D.C., Huntsville Ballet, Alabama Ballet, Indiana Ballet, Nashville Ballet, North Carolina Dance Theatre, Birmingham-Southern College, The American Academy of Ballet, and the Bolshoi Ballet Academy of Moscow, Russia.
The Cullman Ballet Company has won three times the title of “honorable mention” at the Huntsville Panoply Festival and in 2006 qualified for the final round of the competition.
For the first time, our dancers had the privilege of sharing the stage with the Montgomery Ballet Company for 4 performances of Nutcracker at Wallace State College in December of 2010. Members of the Cullman Ballet Company 2012-2013 are Katherine Jackson, Brooke Noe, Breanna Smith. Apprentices are Emily Crispen, Clara Lanier, Sarah Smith, Lauryn Tankersley, Lydia Waters.
