CULLMAN —
Recently, the Cullman Lions Club honored Dr. Tom "Big Doc" Williamson with it's annual Chester Freeman Service To Others Award. Dr. Williamson, better known as "Big Doc" in the community, was named as its 2012 recipient. This award is awarded to the person that is deemed during their career to have done the most for the Cullman County Community. Dr. Williamson moved to Cullman in 1971 as a new doctor of veterinary medicine. An Auburn University graduate, he became affiliated with East Point Veterinary Clinic, which he later came to own. Some of the organizations that Dr. Williamson is or has been a member of are the Alabama Veterinarian Medical Assoc., American Veterinarian Assoc., the Association of Thergenologists, Association of Equine and Swine practitioners, AAHA Officer for 25 years, President of the Alabama Veterinary Assoc., and the Alabama State Board of Veterinary Medical Examination for 13 years. Other organizations inclue the Cullman County Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the Agricultural Business Commission, Chairman of the North Alabama Agriplex (of which he is primarily getting it established), deacon/elder of First Presbyterian Church, Cullman County Regional Hospital Board, Cullman Animal Shelter, on the commission on the feasibility of creating the new jail in Cullman County, Rotarian, Cullman County Cattlemen's Assoc., Farm-City Board, Farm City Family of the Year 2012, and named a distinguished citizen by The Cullman Times. As you can see Big Doc is a busy individual in the community and state, as well as many other behind-the-scenes projects in the community.
