VFW Post 2214

CULLMAN — Cullman’s Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 2214 is one of only two posts in the state of Alabama to be recognized as an All American Post for this year by the National VFW at their convention in Reno, Nev., this week. This honor is awarded to VFW organizations that excel in recruiting new members, advancing patriotism in their school systems, supporting the active duty military and making an impact on their community at large. Cullman’s post has an active program of sponsoring patriotic essay programs in our schools and visiting classrooms to talk to the kids about service to country. Post 2214 recently hosted a send-off dinner for members of our local Army Guard unit leaving for Afghanistan and will support them in many ways while they are deployed. The Cullman VFW has led efforts to establish a first rate Veteran’s Park in Cullman, hosts a Boy Scout Troop and Cub Scout Pack, hosts a major, annual Veteran’s Day event, decorates our town with American Flags on major holidays and decorates the graves of veterans in our city cemetery each Memorial Day. VFW Post 2214 Commander, Jerry Willibey, won the title of VFW Commander of the year for the entire state of Alabama. Jerry served a career in the United States Air Force and saw combat in Vietnam. He has served as the local post Commander several times and his leadership is widely recognized throughout the state-wide VFW organization.
