CULLMAN —
The Dripping Springs Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution and the Arkadelphia Society Children of the American Revolution held a joint meeting in the Bob Sapp Room of the Cullman First United Methodist Church Sunday, Feb. 3. DAR Regent Brenda Scott presided at the meeting. Acting Chaplain Jan Humphries, Judy Floyd, Paula Henry and Linda Schgier assisted with the opening ritual. Dean Green gave the National Defense message.
Senior Society President and C.A.R. chapter chairman Kimberly Dockery told the members about Arkadelphia C.A.R. Society and introduced the program about the American Revolution and the War of 1812. Society members presented information on the Battle of Saratoga and Benedict Arnold, hero and villain from the American Revolution, as well as facts about the War of 1812 and famous people such as James and Dolley Madison, Andrew Jackson, Francis Scott Key, Chief Red Eagle and pirate Jean LaFitte. C.A.R. members participating were Jessica, Courtney, and Austin Ray, Keaton and Kaylee Kahler, Sarah Kate and Evan Dockery, Rena Walker and Reid Van Zandt.
Mrs. Dockery who also serves as Junior American Citizen Chairman present certificates to Arkadelphia Society members who participated in the JAC contest. They were Austin Ray, first place in first-grade short story, Sarah Kate Dockery, first place in third-grade poetry, and Jaxon Van Zandt, first place in third-grade stamp design. These entries have been forwarded to the state JAC chairman for competition on the state level.
Refreshments and a business session followed the program. Reports by the Women's Issues, conservation, Project Patriot, commemorative events, American Heritage, and membership committees were given. Linda Schgier was recognized for her entry in the Knitting fiber Arts category of the American Heritage Committee Contest. Her entry will be entered in the competition on the state level.
