SBP Jazz Ensemble performed at the 2013 Bloomin’ Festival

CULLMAN — Students from the "Saints of Saint Bernard Jazz Ensemble" performed some great music during the recent Bloomin’ Festival which was held at historic Ave Maria Grotto and Saint Bernard Abbey in Cullman. The Instrumental Music program at Saint Bernard includes students from grades 7 through 12. Students begin learning an instrument in the seventh grade and progress as they grow older and become mature physically and musically. At Saint Bernard, the emphasis is on popular, jazz, blues and rock music with an occasional event where they will perform classical and/or liturgical music.

The "Saints of Saint Bernard Jazz Ensemble" which is composed of our ninth- through twelfth-grade students, performed a "Mardi Gras" show for the students at Saint Bernard on Fat Tuesday. The music featured selections from all of the genres mentioned above and soloist were featured from every section of the ensemble. The St. Bernard Middle School Advanced Band and the Senior High Jazz Ensemble performed a program of popular music for the students and faculty at Sacred Heart in April. The seventh- and eighth-grade groups will perform a concert at 2:15 p.m. Friday, May 10, in the music room. Anyone may attend.
