Sacred Heart students win McWane science challenge

Sacred Heart School

CULLMAN — Sacred Heart third- and fourth-grade students won the recent McWane-sponsored Celebrate Science Exhibit Design Challenge event. Nineteen schools from all over Alabama and one from Mississippi were asked to create a prototype for the museum. Students could choose any science topic they wished. Once the topic was chosen by the school, students decided what concepts it would teach and how it would give visitors hands-on opportunities to learn the concepts. Sacred Heart chose the brain and the prototype was called “Brain Attack.” The inspiration for the project came from Andrew Winfrey. The students worked on this project for several months. This is the fifth year the school has participated. They had two third-place finishes before this win. Teachers are Tracy Holmes and Kellie Thompson.
