Area students visit WSCC’s technical programs

HANCEVILLE — Wallace State Community College hosted more than 300 high school juniors from both Cullman and Blount Counties last week for the second annual “invesTECHgate Day.” The event offered high school students a chance to get an in-depth look at technical careers available at the collegiate level.

High schools visiting campus were Vinemont, Hanceville, Cold Springs, J.B. Pennington, Hayden and Locust Fork.

Through a survey administered at the respective high schools, students selected the technical program they’re interested in and spent a couple of hours at Wallace State learning more about the skills and requirements associated with their possible career choice. Students chose among Diesel Mechanics, Welding, Agriculture, Precision Machining, Aviation, Cosmetology, HVAC, Drafting/Design, Auto Manufacturing, Electronics, Culinary Arts, Auto Service and Collision Repair.

Students were also advised on the college admissions process and financial aid and dual-enrollment opportunities. The event was organized by Wallace State’s Career Coaches.
