Samford University junior Christina Rickman of Holly Pond won a top research honor at the 90th annual meeting of the Alabama Academy of Science, held at Samford March 20-22.
Rickman won second place in the undergraduate chemistry category for her project, “Exploring the Utility of Novel Amino Acid-Derived Chirons; Toward the Synthesis of (-) Galantinic Acid and ‘Smart’ Therapeutics.” Her poster describes her research with Samford chemistry and biochemistry professor Dr. Andy Lampkins.
A graduate of Holly Pond High School, Rickman is enrolled in Samford’s Clark Scholars Program for students committed to interdisciplinary studies in computational biology. The field unites biology, computer science, mathematics and information technology.
About 300 faculty members, undergraduate and graduate students from 18 Alabama colleges and universities participated in the AAS meeting.
