WSCC’s Gene Dudley receives lifetime achievement award

Gene Dudley, Electronics Instructor at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville, has been awarded the Randall Peacock Lifetime Achievement Award of the Iota Lambda Sigma-Epsilon Chapter in recognition of his outstanding contributions in career technical education and workforce development.  He was presented the award at the Summer Meeting of the ILS-Epsilon Chapter in Birmingham.

Dudley’s career spans more than 30 years as a professional in the technical arena, including the last 20 years in education. He joined the Wallace State Electronics Department in 2006 and, in addition to teaching industrial electronics, has been an enthusiastic recruiter for the college’s technical programs and advocate for the use of technology as a teaching and learning tool. During his tenure at Wallace State, he has served as Co-Director of North Alabama BEST Robotics Competition and assisted with local and state Skills USA competitions. He is an authorized OSHA trainer for the college, and has participated on various state curriculum committees as well as on the Alabama Career Technical Advisory Council. During 2011 he held an appointment as Interim Director of Career and Technical Education for the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education.

Prior to joining Wallace State, Dudley served  as President and Executive Director of the Construction Education Foundation of Alabama, and as an education specialist for the Alabama Department of Education. He was an electronics teacher at Brewer High School in the 1990s following a stint as a field service engineer for Magnavox.  From 1981 to 1986 he served in the United States Air Force as an Airborne Maintenance Technician. Dudley participated in career technical education as a secondary student and that experience has played a crucial role in his professional life, he said.

“I sincerely believe every student can gain lifelong, valuable skills and knowledge to allow them to achieve their career goals,” Dudley said.

A resident of Guntersville, Dudley holds a master’s degree in Industrial Technical Education from Alabama A&M University, a bachelor’s degree in Management of Technology from Athens State University, and an associate degree in liberal arts from the City Colleges of Chicago.
