Cullman City teachers receive grants

CULLMAN — The Cullman City Schools Foundation recently awarded $12,480 to 33 Cullman City School teachers, including one grant for $368 from the 1984 Tony Ray Brock Music Enhancement Fund. Thanks in part to a $5,000 grant from the Cullman County Community Development Commission.

Recipients are Cullman City Primary School teachers, Ashley Garrison (leveled readers), Casey Grier (first-grade sight word readers and activities), Fran Watson (double-sided dry erase student lapboards), and Lanie Williamson (chapter books for school library). In addition, Cullman City Primary School and Cullman City HeadStart will receive all building/teacher access to, thanks to a grant proposal submitted by Tammy White.

Other recipients are West Elementary School teachers, Keenan Fowlkes (historical and biographical non-fiction read-along books for third grade), Tere Kelly (Science Study weekly for fourth grade), Elizabeth Shaddix (classroom set of The Seven Habits of Happy Kids by Sean Covey), Melinda Willingham (classroom Accelerated Reader books and materials for third grade), Vicki Parker (plant and animal slides for fifth-grade science), Kristy White (non-fiction books for sixth grade), Sue Bouldin ("Open-Ended Coach" for writing responses to open-ended questions), Deena Carden (task cards and activities for second grade), and Deborah Cummings (Science World magazine for sixth grade).

More grant recipients are East Elementary School teachers, Paige Faulk (fourth grade "Author Study" support), Lindsay Harris (fifth-grade leveled readers), Tracy Marsh (trade books for science and social studies), Briana Bauer (classroom reading support), Jessica Lowry (Pocket Talker Pro portable amplifier for speech therapy), Danielle Taylor (special education classroom activities), Beth Collins (supplemental social studies texts for research support), and Tamika Powell (trade books for literature circles and small group instruction).

From Cullman Middle School, Tasha Meyer (non-fiction Accelerated Reader titles for the CMS library), Susan Sellers (practice buzzer system for math team), Bama Turner (three classroom microscopes), and awarded from the '84 Tony Ray Brock Music Enhancement Fund to Debbie Johnston (curriculum support for the new Music Appreciation class at CMS). Congratulations CMS teachers.

Also, six grant recipients were chosen at Cullman High School: Cindy Pass and Dillon Lee (fine arts materials), Sara McCutcheon (scholars' bowl NAQT practice questions), Stephanie Barlow (classroom materials for algebra A and B, Wendy Stephens (mobile library check-out services), Jackie Donaldson (Wolfe cordless, digital, binocular microscope), and Janice Burrows (geometry and ACT Prep materials).
