HANCEVILLE — The Continuing Education Department at Wallace State Community College announces the following upcoming courses:
‰ Patient Care Assistant Program: Patient Care Assistants work directly with patients under the supervision of a registered or licensed practical nurse. They have a variety of duties depending on the type of facility and the type of patient. These include taking vital signs, feeding and bathing. Many people become PCA as a first step toward nursing, medicine and other patient care careers. Classes begin Sept. 11. The fee is $790 plus expenses. ‰ ServSafe Test-Prep and Certification Course: Participants will gain valuable knowledge in the following areas: sanitation, the flow of food, purchasing and receiving, storing foods, safety, food preparation, facilities and equipment, regulatory agencies, and inspection, and crisis management. This program is designed specifically for food handling employees of restaurants, hospitals, nursing homes, schools, daycares, and other food service professionals. Classes will be held September 10, 11, and 17 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Fee $150 includes certification exam. Participants must register in advance. Contact the college at 256-352-7826 to register.
‰ Alabama Physical Therapy Jurisprudence Workshop: This workshop will discuss the structure and functions of the Alabama Physical Therapy Practice Act and Administrative Code. Participants will learn to articulate their role in physical therapy practice as well as the roles of others with whom they work, and distinguish between legal and ethical violations within clinical scenarios. The workshop will be held Sept. 12 from 2 to 4 p.m. for two continuing education contact hours. The fee is $75. Call (256) 352-7826 to register.
‰ COPD Update: Participants in the COPD Update, four continuing education contact hour class, will learn about the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease, gain an understanding of the disease components of COPD and the coping mechanisms necessary for COPD patients, learn the basic pharmacological needs of a COPD patient, and learn how to apply the key areas of COPD Rehabilitation in the clinical setting. Registration is $40. The class will be held on September 14 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
‰ Facebook for Seniors: Senior adults are increasingly joining social media to stay in contact with friends and family. Facebook for Seniors will provide the information participants need to get started with the most popular social media platform. The fee is $25 for this class, which will be held Tuesday, September 18, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
‰ Computers for Seniors: This is a basic course to help acquaint seniors with computers and their features. Seniors will enjoy this relaxed and informative format designed for those who are just beginning to work with the computer. The fee is $25 for this class, which will be held Tuesday, Sept. 18, 1 to 4 p.m.
