Names CHS Seniors Semifinalist
Dr. Elton Bouldin, principal of Cullman High School, is pleased to announce three National Merit Semifinalists from the CHS Class of 2012: They are Josh Oanca, Meghan McLeroy, and Stats Hogeland. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 8,300 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $34 million that will be offered next spring. To become a national Merit Finalist, as semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by the high school principal, and earn SAT scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test.
Josh Oanca is the son of Petru and Ana Oanca. He is a member of the LEO Club and National Honor Society with extracurricular interest in math, science, and sports. He is planning to apply to a variety of colleges that include Yale, the University of Chicago, MIT, Harvard, and the University of Alabama. Josh will be pursuing a degree in engineering or in the field of business.
Meghan McLeroy is the daughter of Todd and Kathryn McLeroy. She is a member of the CHS Band, National Honor Society, Math Team, Scholars Bowl Team, and participates in Theatre productions. She is planning to apply to a variety of colleges that include the University of Chicago, Washington University in St. Louis, Rice University, and the University of Alabama. Meghan will be pursuing a degree in arts and sciences/pre-law, working toward her ultimate goal of a law degree.
Stats Hogeland is the son of Jeff and Ginger Hogeland. He currently serves as the Student Government Association President and German Club President. He is a member of the LEO Club, Key Club, National Honor Society, German National Honor Society, and the CHS Band. Stats is planning to apply to a variety of colleges that include the University of Alabama and the University of Chicago, pursuing a major in the field of international business.
