Welcome home 167th

We should be proud of our guardsmen

Several families in Cullman County are breathing a little easier this weekend.

Their loved ones are returning to Alabama safe and sound.

Several local residents are members of the 167th Infantry Battalian returning home today.

Members of the unit participated in 2,000 combat missions in their year in Iraq. Members of their unit earned Bronze Stars and other medals of valor. Members of their unit are returning home with Purple Hearts, a sign of the dangerous service they’ve rendered for their country.

We shouldn’t have to be reminded of the important role they play in our nation’s security. Staff Sgt. Travis Nelson, the first person from Cullman County killed in Iraq, was a member of the unit before joining the 101st Airborne.

Members of the 167th served with distinction in Iraq, adding to the Fourth Alabama reputation that dates back to the Civil War.

We say welcome home members of “Charlie Company.” Thank you for your service to your country.

You have made us all proud.

At the same time, we’re proud of Cullman County residents who are currently serving in harm’s way in the Middle East and those who are about to be deployed.

Our prayers are with you and your families as well, hoping for a safe return as those from the 167th are experiencing today.
