Stars In the Harbor holiday event slated for Dec. 8

GUNTERSVILLE — If your family is going to the Guntersville Street Parade, plan on avoiding all the traffic headaches of leaving right away and come on down to the “Stars on the Harbor” which will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Dec. 8, at the Guntersville City Harbor directly after the street parade.

Activities and events:

ON THE WATER: Our “Winter Waterland” of boats decorated for the season, turning the harbor into a magical display of lights. The public will cast votes to determine the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winning displays.

ON LAND:  Our Christmas Carnival featuring:

Lots of games and activities for the kids

 Food  vendors offering hot sandwiches, cotton candy, ice cream from Guntersville’s Ice Cream Shop, hot and cold drinks, popcorn and more.

Our Christmas Carnival: Merchandize vendors you can browse and from whom you can purchase unique Christmas gifts including jewelry, Scentsy products, “31” antiques and collectibles, Metal cut-outs, hand- made Christmas ornaments and more.

And what would a holiday celebration be without… SANTA CLAUS! Photo opportunities will be  available.

  • Lions Club Cullman County Schools.jpg Cullman Lions' Club presented donation to Cullman County Schools

    Ed Henke, of the Cullman Lions' Club, presented a check for $6,500 to Stephanie Coffey, teacher of the visually impaired; and Tiffanye Mitchell, coordinator of Special Education, Cullman County School System. These funds will be used to purchase equipment and material for students with visual impairments in the Cullman County School System.

  • EES to present ‘Oklahoma’

    Students at East Elementary School will present the Broadway musical “Oklahoma” at 7 p.m. April 25; and at 1 p.m. April 16, in the school’s gym. Doors will be open one hour early each day. Admission is $5; children five years and under are free. Proceeds will go to future productions by the East Elementary Musical Theatre Department.

    St. Bernard Preparatory School will present the timeless classic,  "Cinderella," a Rodgers and Hammerstein Production, Thursday, May 1-3, beginning at 6:56 p.m. and a Sunday afternoon performance on May 4 at 2 p.m.

    The City of Cullman recently made a donation to the Cullman Veterans Memorial Park at Sportsman Lake. This donation allowed for the completion of the park, which includes the pavilion, new flags, and the large concrete American flag that greets all who enter the park.

    Dr. Bill Deutsch, professor emeritus at Auburn University and founder of Alabama Waterwatch, will be the guest speaker during Wallace State Community College’s Earth Day events on April 22, sponsored by the Green Team. Deutsch is a researcher with Auburn University’s School of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Aquatic Sciences and recently returned from working on a water project in Kenya.

    The Cullman Ballet Society has auditions for summer scholarships, with registration at noon Saturday, March 15, at the Cullman Ballet Theatre School.
