Chicken supper

Welti Elementary School will hold a chicken supper from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the school, 8545 County Road 747, Cullman 35055. Drive-through and carryouts available (drink not provided). Menu: chicken/dressing, gravy, green beans, slaw, potato salad, cranberry sauce, dessert and drink (inside only). $6/plate. All proceeds go to the school.

NOVEMBER 3

Old-fashioned day

Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, 4312 County Road 1570, Joppa 35087, will hold an old-fashioned day from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., with lunch at noon. Special guests will be southern gospel group, Point of Honor, at lunchtime. www.mthermonchurchjoppa/org.

NOVEMBER 2

Pancake breakfast

The Hanceville Lions Club will hold a pancake breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. at the Moody Center, 111 Michelle St. NW, Hanceville 35077. All you can eat-$5/person. All proceeds to go to a scholarship in memory of Lion Billy Raw.

    Dr. Bill Deutsch, professor emeritus at Auburn University and founder of Alabama Waterwatch, will be the guest speaker during Wallace State Community College’s Earth Day events on April 22, sponsored by the Green Team. Deutsch is a researcher with Auburn University’s School of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Aquatic Sciences and recently returned from working on a water project in Kenya.

  • Ballet scholarship applications has Thursday deadline

    The Cullman Ballet Society has auditions for summer scholarships, with registration at noon Saturday, March 15, at the Cullman Ballet Theatre School.     Rebecca Carter of Vinemont was recently selected to participate in the 2014 Miss Teen Birmingham/Montgomery pageant competition that will take place Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014. Rebecca learned of her acceptance into this year's competition when the pageant announced their selections following interviewing in the local Birmingham/Montgomery area. Rebecca submitted an application and took part in an interview session that was conducted by this year's Birmingham/Montgomery Pageant Coordinator.
