Wallace State Community College in Hanceville will host a Juried Visual Arts Exhibition April 1-13, 2013, as part of its annual Arts in April celebration. Entries may be submitted at the Burrow Center for the Fine and Performing Arts during normal Wallace State office hours weekdays through March 15.
The theme for this year’s exhibition is “Spring Folly” celebrates the wonder, joy and fun that is springtime. Artists are invited to submit their work in one or more of the following categories: drawing, painting, photography, ceramics/sculpture, and computer art. Entries will be judged in five age divisions: kindergarten through second grade, third through fifth grade, sixth through eighth grade, ninth through twelfth grade, and adult. Whether the approach is simple or complex, entries will be judged primarily on how well the artist uses his or her artistic vision to explore and present the work. Younger artists are invited to draw and color Roary, the Wallace State Lion Mascot, and his surroundings on the attached coloring sheet, “Roary’s Spring Day.” Coloring sheet entries will be featured in a non-juried showcase.
Eligible artists are current WSCC students, employees, school-aged children (public school and home-schooled children), and adults in the WSCC service area. Each artist may individually submit a total of two artworks from any of the five categories listed above.
Only original works of art will be accepted. Each entry must be the work of only one individual. Assistance from teachers, parents, mentors, or friends is not encouraged.
All entries should be ready and suitable for display when submitted. Two dimensional artworks (drawings, paintings, photographs, or graphic prints) must be matted and/or framed to be accepted. “Roary’s Spring Day” coloring sheets do not have to be matted or framed. Clay or ceramic artworks must be kiln-fired. Sculptures must be made only of durable material and mounted on bases for presentation.

Exhibition award winners will be publicized at www.wallacestate.edu by Friday, March 22, 2012. An exhibition reception and presentation of awards will be held in the Burrow Center for the Fine and Performing Arts lobby on Saturday, April 13, 2012, at 10 a.m. Award winners are encouraged to attend.
Entries must be received by March 15 for inclusion in the exhibit.

Scoring System
The overall score determines the reinspection schedule and the use of enforcement actions.
Scoring between 85 and 100 are considered to be in satisfactory compliance and are inspected on routine schedule.
Scoring between 70 and 84 require a follow up inspection within 60 days.
Scoring between 60 and 69 require follow up and reinspection within 48 hours.
Scoring below 60 are closed immediately. Scores may be accessed at www.adph.org.

Replacement headstone dedication
On the 13th of April a small dedication ceremony was held at the Simcoe Methodist Church Cemetery for an Army veteran who had passed away in September of 1999.
