Wallace State Theatre presents the Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy “You Can’t Take it with You” – April 11-14

HANCEVILLE — Chaos ensues when Alice Sycamore brings a young suitor home to meet her eccentric family.

That’s the setting for Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman’s 1937 Pulitzer-Prize winning play, “You Can’t Take It with You,” being staged by the Wallace State Theatre Department this week.

If the Sycamore family seems mad, it is not long before we realize that if they are mad, the rest of the world is madder in this quick-witted and timeless screwball comedy about a crazy, dysfunctional family.

Director Lauren Cantrell-Salerno said, "You Can't Take it With You is a charming play about living life to the fullest. The cast and crew have worked very hard on this production, and I'm excited to share it with our community."

Five performances will be held in the Betty Leeth Haynes Theatre at the Wallace State Student Center April 11 through April 14 as follows:

• Thursday, April 11, at 9:30 a.m.

• Thursday April 11, at 7 p.m.

• Friday, April 12, at 7 p.m.

• Saturday, April 13, at 7 p.m.

• Sunday, April 14, at 2 p.m.

General admission is $5 for students and $10 for adults. Tickets are available at the door.

For more information, contact Cantrell-Salerno at, or call 256-352-8277 or 8422.

Dozens of prints depicting rural life are now on display at the Burrow Museum in an exhibition entitled “Days Gone By.”
The exhibition is on loan to the museum from Grover and Irma Reeves of Vinemont, who have been collecting prints that remind them of the past and, in some cases, their own life for about 10 years. Their daughter Jeanne, who works for Cotton Incorporated, would attend conferences where one of their favorite artists would be selling prints. She would buy some of those prints and introduced her parents to his work.
