A winter storm that swept across Cullman County last night left most local roads buried under inches of snow this morning.
Every state and U.S. highway in the county has been designated impassable by the Alabama Department of Transportation, and travel is discouraged. Alabama Highway 157, from Childhaven Road to U.S. Highway 31, has reportedly been closed by law enforcement, according to ALDOT.
The Cullman County Emergency Management Agency has issued a local area emergency due to widespread treacherous and impassable road conditions.
Cullman County schools, city schools, Sacred Heart and Wallace State are all closed today.
Road crews are reportedly working to clear main routes of travel as soon as possible, and Cullman County remains under a winter weather warning until 6 p.m. tonight.
