A local man died at a Birmingham hospital Monday from injuries sustained during a two-vehicle wreck in Cullman County over the Memorial Day weekend.

Cullman County Coroner Gary Murphree said Juan Ceba of Cullman was pronounced dead at approximately 12:30 p.m. at UAB Hospital.

According to Alabama State Trooper reports, Ceba was one of four people traveling in a 1998 Ford when the wreck occurred at 1:45 p.m. Sunday on Alabama Highway 278, 2 miles east of Cullman. Ceba was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the wreck.

The driver of the vehicle, Julio Landa, 16 of Cullman, did wear a seat belt but was still injured. Passenger Estaban Cobaxin, 26 of Cullman also wore a seat belt while his fellow passenger, Teodorro Parra, 33 of Cullman did not wear one.

Both were injured.

Reports indicate Jeffery Brock, 42 of Cullman was the driver and only occupant of the second vehicle, a 1986 Toyota. He was not injured.

Troopers are still investigating the cause of the wreck.

Alabama Department of Public Safety statistics indicate at least 11 people died in traffic accidents on state roads over the three-day Memorial Day holiday weekend. Along with Cullman, fatalities occurred in Pickens, Baldwin, Morgan, Shelby, Tuscaloosa, Blount and Etowah Counties.

Approximately 423 traffic accidents were investigated over the 72-hour travel period, which ended at midnight Monday.

In 2008 three people died in accidents on Alabama roads over the Memorial Day weekend.
