Raney chosen for AASBO Award

Cullman City Schools

CULLMAN — Russell Raney, Cullman City Schools Chief School Finance Officer, has been selected by his peers in the Alabama Association of School Business Officers (AASBO) to receive the District Robert L. Morton Outstanding School Business Official Award. This award is named in honor of the late Robert L. Morton, former assistant superintendent of administration and finance for the Alabama State Department of Education, who contributed so much to the AASBO organization.

Each AASBO district nominated an individual for the award. AASBO will recognize all nine nominees as well as the recipient at its annual meeting. A $1,000 scholarship will be given to the recipient’s school district for a deserving high school student.

AASBO seeks to recognize, through this award, the dedication that individuals bring to their communities, their profession, and their school district in everyday life.

“Russell Raney is deserving of this prestigious award.  We are proud of Russell’s accomplishments and appreciate his dedication to Cullman City Schools,” said Jan Harris. ”Through his leadership as Chief School Finance Officer, our school district continues to be the recipient of sound fiscal management with conservative approaches that have yielded consistent, unqualified audits and a three month reserve during the Great Recession.”
