Belle Foods begins renaming former Bruno's grocery stores

BIRMINGHAM — An Alabama-based grocery chain is converting its stores as the name Bruno’s Supermarket fades into history.

The new owner of the former Birmingham-based grocery chain’s surviving stores this week kicked off a rebranding campaign. Eventually, it will convert all of its locations to the Belle Foods banner.

The Birmingham News reports (http://bit.ly/NouQK7 ) that the first store to be converted was a Bruno’s in Hoover, where Belle Foods officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony this week.

It was the only remaining Bruno’s in metro Birmingham following the chain’s 2009 bankruptcy and a previous rebranding by former owner Southern Family Markets.

Belle Foods purchased Birmingham’s Southern Family Markets earlier this year, acquiring 57 stores in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and Florida that operate under banners including Bruno’s, Food World and Piggly Wiggly.
