18-wheeler trailer breaks in half on U.S. Hwy. 31, traffic backed-up

CULLMAN — An 18-wheeler trailer broke in half and is sitting in the right hand lane on U.S. Highway 31 in Cullman next to the Cullman Dodge Dealership.

Local law enforcement and firemen responded to assist with the traffic issues and no injuries have been reported. Cullman City Police officer Jeff Lawson responded to the accident and said it is something they and Fire and Rescue responders have never experienced.

“It appears that the load in the truck shifted which broke the trailer in half, we haven’t had the cause confirmed yet,” Lawson said. “This is the first time I’ve ever seen this happen.”

Officials recommend drivers avoid the area if possible. The broken trailer is being unloaded and a replacement truck is on scene to take on it’s contents.

The R.E. Garrison trucking company did not wish to comment on the incident.
