CULLMAN — North Alabama received between 2 to 4 inches of snow this morning with another round of snow tomorrow expected to bring an additional 2 to 5 inches of snowfall. Cullman Civic Center is now open as a warming shelter for anyone in need.
The Cullman County EMA reported county roads are extremely hazardous due to icing. Nonessential travel is strongly discouraged. City of Cullman has closed the following streets:
- Walnut St bridge
- Mitchell @ Childhaven
- Childhaven @ Church of Christ
- 2nd Ave NE @ 14th St NE
- Main Ave @ 13th St
- Convent Rd @ Barton Dr
- Larkwood Ct
- Larkwood Dr
- Chateau Dr
- Briarwood Ln
- Briarwood Dr
The EMA also reported icing on County Road 831, CR 813, CR 437 (overpass), and intersection of Alabama 157 & I-65. Ice was also reported in left lanes on I-65 north & south bound. The right lanes were pre-treated county line to county line by ALDOT.
There was also a report of a head-on collision with injury in Vinemont. Tractor trailers were reportedly lining up at the bottom of Battleground Mountain because they couldn't make it up AL- 157 into West Point. Ice was also reported on I-65 around the Lacon exit 318.
The Cullman County Courthouse will remain open today, however residents should call specific offices ahead of time to see if they are open. The Cullman County Revenue Commission will be closed along with the District Attorney's Office. All circuit and district court proceedings today have been cancelled.
Mayor Townson has closed Cullman City Hall closed today due to hazardous driving conditions.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Cullman County and the Tennessee Valley until Wednesday.
