CULLMAN — Warehouse Discount Grocery in Town Square Shopping Center was evacuated for a brief period of time Wednesday afternoon around 3:30 p.m. after an employee found a note claiming a bomb was in the store.

The Cullman Police Department responded to the scene and performed a search of the store and were unable to locate any devices. Store employees and shoppers were able to return to the store less than an hour later.  Cullman Police Lt. Craig Montgomery and officer Joey Duncan said a store employee found the note on one of the food aisles.

“A note was found by a WDG employee among rows of peanut better stating that a device was in the building,” Montgomery said. “We did a sweep of the store, but nothing was found. Everyone has since came back into the business. If anyone has any information, please contact our investigators.”

Police Chief Kenny Culpepper said a Gulf Shores Walmart experienced a similar situation this week.

“Our investigation [department] is contacting their investigation [department] to see if there are any similarities between the two situations,” Culpepper said. “They also evacuated the Walmart and did a search, basically the same way we handled the incident.”
