UPDATE: Cullman Co. roads clear despite freezing temps; city schools cancel Tuesday delay

CULLMAN — Roads in the Cullman area remained clear Monday despite snow flurries and sub-freezing temperatures, however wind chill values will hover around 5 to 15 degrees below zero.

A wind chill warning will be in effect through noon Tuesday due to the combination of very cold air and strong winds which create dangerously low wind chill values that can result in frost bite and hypothermia. Cullman County and Cullman City schools closed Monday and the county system plans to delay opening until 10 a.m. Tuesday due to the abnormally cold weather. The city school system had originally intended to delay on Tuesday, but now plans to start on time.

The City of Cullman and City of Hanceville have also opened warming stations for those who may not have access to a reliable heat source. The Cullman Civic Center at 510 Fifth St. SW is open today and tonight, along with the Hanceville City Hall. Hanceville plans to remain open until further notice while the Cullman Civic Center will tentatively close 8 a.m. Tuesday.
