Hermetz 2

On July 24, 2010, cancer patient Tim Hermetz celebrated his fourth successful cancer surgery with National Cancer Institute surgical oncologists, Dr. Itzhak Avital, left, and Dr. Scott Atay, following Hermetz’s month-long stay at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center where Hermetz was successfully treated for a bowel obstruction caused by new abdominal tumor growth. Hermetz had 2 1/2 feet of intestines removed one year after his first three major cancer surgeries at the NIH and Cullman Regional Medical Center. He continues to battle a terminal cancer diagnosis, Stage IV malignant peritoneal mesothelioma, a rare cancer of the abdominal lining.
