PREP FOOTBALL NOTEBOOK: Bulldogs trying to end AHSAA’s 2nd-longest current losing streak
By Justin GravesHANCEVILLE — This is a category Hanceville High’s football team doesn’t want to fall under.
After last week’s loss to Hamilton, Hanceville extended its current losing streak to 18 games. It’s the second-longest current losing skid in the state.
At 19 games, Class 6A Paul Bryant is the only prep football team in Alabama with a longer losing streak than Hanceville.
The last time Hanceville broke into the win column was 2005 — when the Bulldogs defeated Cold Springs in the fifth week of the season.
Hanceville finished last season 0-10, and the Bulldogs are currently 0-3 on the season.
In order to end the streak, Hanceville will have to defeat a strong J.B. Pennington team tonight. After falling to rival Susan Moore in the season opener, the Tigers from Blountsville have won two straight — defeating Winfield and Carbon Hill.
• Looking for a win: It’s been a tough start for Cold Springs.
Running a new spread offense, the Eagles have yet to win a game.
But it wasn’t the easiest way to start the season.
After falling to Class 3A opponent Carbon Hill in the season opener, Cold Springs dropped a pair of region games to talented teams in Lamar County and Sulligent.
Cold Springs has a chance to win its first game of the season tonight when the Eagles host Cleveland.
Cleveland hasn’t had the strongest start, either.
After beating Locust Fork — which has started the season 0-3 — in the opener, Cleveland has dropped back-to-back games to Sulligent and Lamar County.
Cold Springs hosts Hanceville next week.
